Federal Appeals Court Upholds Mifepristone Ban

WORT 89.9FM Madison · Federal Appeals Court Upholds Mifepristone Ban

On August 16, the fifth circuit federal appeals court in New Orleans issued a ruling severely limiting access to the anti-abortion drug mifepristone.  Three federal judges, Jennifer Walker Elrod, James Ho and Cory Wilson, all outspoken anti-abortion advocates, and all appointed by Republican presidents, stopped short of banning the drug altogether, but ruled that mifepristone can only be prescribed in person, and cannot be delivered by mail. The ruling is stayed until the U.S. Supreme Court can review the case, so the drug remains available in the interim.  Angela Vasquez-Giroux is the NARAL Pro-Choice America Vice-President of Communications and Research, and she joined the Monday Buzz on August 21, 2023.
