A proposed cancellation of Fourth of July fireworks, unaccounted for school district funds, and staff shortages at the City level are some of the main issues that will have to be addressed in the coming months for City of Monona leadership. Kristie Goforth, a concerned resident of Monona, in addition to her many civic leadership posts, joins the Thursday 8 O’Clock Buzz to discuss the ongoing problems in the city of 8600 people on the east side of Lake Mendota. The City is trying to wrest control of the Monona Community Festival from an existing 501(C) organization, the Monona School District has taken out an emergency loan to cover operational expenses for the 2024/25 academic year, and there are staff shortages at City Hall due to high staff turnover. What’s next, issues with poor public transportation? Oh yeah, there’s that too.
