Ever since the Cold War, the United States has done its best to thwart or overturn left-leaning or Marxist governments in the Western hemisphere. However, two particular thorns in the U.S. side, Cuba and Venezuela, have largely resisted multiple efforts to install governments more friendly to perceived U.S. interests.
Given all that history, and given all the bias and propaganda about these two Latin American nations, it is difficult for even discerning news consumers to find accurate and detailed information about what is actually going on in those nations.
To redress that news black hole, Monday Buzz host Brian Standing spoke to Andres Sebastian-Pertierra, a historian and PhD candidate at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a graduate of Havana University. Pertierra lives in Havana, where he studies Marxist historiography and the history of capitalism. Pertierra described how the recent election in Venezuela was stolen, just like the Venezuelan opposition claims.
