Since 1978, the San Francisco musical collective Negativland has pushed the boundaries of experimental music, performance art, intellectual property and the public domain.
Ranging from tweaking the Irish band U-2, to mashups of the Teletubbies themes, to animatronic Abraham Lincoln mannequins, the band continues to lampoon modern culture.
Negativland is getting ready for a performance with visual artist Sue-C. They will perform at the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art on Friday September 27, along with a screening of the documentary “Stand By for Failure: A Documentary About Negativland.” This is a collaboration with Mills Folly Cinema.
Monday Buzz host Brian Standing spoke with Negativland’s Jon Leidecker and event curator James Kreul.
