Wood Pellets as Fuel Perhaps Not So Green After All

Manufacturers of wood pellet stoves extoll the virtues of the devices as an environmentally friendly, renewable alternative to fossil fuels.  In 2020, the European Union classified wood pellets as a “carbon-neutral” form of energy, which in turn has spurred intense global demand for wood to manufacture the fuel.

Now, scientists and activists are starting to question just how “green” this fuel really is.
