Sadat Abiri migrated from Nigeria to the United States in 1981 and found her way to Madison, Wisconsin. Once in Madison she attended the University of Wisconsin, obtaining Masters degrees in Nursing and in Public Health.
But for her field work she returned to her homeland of Nigeria, working in the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital. Now a psychiatric nurse practitioner and the owner of Ease of Mind Mental Health Services, Abiri has dedicated her career to fighting against the stigma of mental health.
She’s also one of the organizers of the Madison-Dane County Martin Luther King, Jr. Coalition’s observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, taking place later today. Abiri visited WORT’s studios to talk to Monday Buzz host Brian Standing about her work and career.
