Robert Velez, professor of political science at University of Texas – Rio Grande Valley, joins host Tony Castañeda to discuss the recent phenomena of Latinos voting for Don Trump in the last presidential election. The four counties in the Rio Grande Valley all swung to the Republican candidate for US President despite the fact that local democrats won their contests for the down-ballot races. It would seem that the Hispanic population in the Valley is not necessarily shifting to the right, but rather voters appreciating the fact that Trump is not a typical politician. And building a wall on the border creates local jobs which is an important issue for voters there. How long will the honeymoon last between Trump and the voting public in the Valley? Tune in to get the latest.
