How Do We See Things as Sexist or Racist?

Betsy Leondar-Wright, co-author of “Is It Racist? Is It Sexist?: Why Red and Blue White People Disagree, and How to Decide in the Gray Areas” investigates how people determine if things in the world around us are racist or sexist, and what influences their perception of identical situations. In a study lasting over two and a half years and interviews with 127 individuals from various locales, party affiliation, age, and social backgrounds, Leondar-Wright and her co-author were able to identify some insights into what makes people think how they do.
