Wisconsin Supreme Court Race Gets Pricey and Nasty

WORT 89.9FM Madison · State Supreme Court Race Gets Pricey and Nasty

Over a century ago, progressives in Wisconsin moved judicial elections to the spring and declared them officially nonpartisan. They hoped to remove the influence of political parties on local government and the judiciary, resulting in a dispassionate, well-reasoned debate removed from party propaganda and influence.  Well, to paraphrase Rocky the Squirrel: “that trick didn’t work.”  The 2025 Wisconsin Supreme Court race has become the most expensive in history, generating over 50 million dollars in Political Action Committee spending, including from centibillionaire Elon Musk. Vicious attack ads have flooded the commercial airwaves, the internet and social media, many of which seem to miss the whole point about what the Supreme Court actually does.  Wisconsin Watch’s Jack Kelly has been following the campaign and he joined the Monday Buzz on March 24.
