What Do You Want in a Beatles Tribute: Sound or Vision? An Expert Answ...

Here is the short version of the conversation, which was broadcast over the radio.

If you are a fan of the Beatles, the month of March 2025 has plenty to make you twist and shout, because the Barrymore Theater plays host to two Beatle tribute bands. Next Sunday the Fab Four will have you thinking you see John, Paul, George and Ringo live on stage. A member of that group will talk with Friday Buzz host Andy Moore later this week.

The Madison Mystery Tour performs live. Aviv Kammay is on the far right.

But on the Monday Buzz we turn our attention to a local group that makes no pretense of making you think you are at a Beatles concert … unless you use your ears only.

The Madison Mystery Tour performs Beatles songs with note-for-note precision, allowing audiences to share in the joy of the music alone. Aviv Kammay is a musician, music teacher, and a founding member of the Madison Mystery Tour. He is also the author of an academic study of Beatles tribute bands, and has contributed chapters to two books on the group:

Fandom and The Beatles: The Act You’ve Known for All These Years

Beatles and Humour, The: Mockers, Funny Papers, and Other Play

He was interviewed by Monday Buzz producer Nicholas Wootton.
